The Social Hub’s path to B Corp certification
Whether a local, traveller, student or professional, The Social Hub (TSH) connects guest with passionate people from all walks of life to meet, share ideas and experiences. TSH is on a journey to be as responsible and impactful as possible. With ‘Social’ at the centre of its name, TSH focuses on creating a better society and a fairer and greener world through its programming for the community and impact from business operations.
Partnering for positive change
Driven by a commitment to social responsibility and positive change, TSH partnered with us to pursue B Corp certification and demonstrate dedication to their mission of “creating a better society.” By obtaining B Corp certification, TSH joins a community of like-minded purpose-driven enterprises. TSH asked The Terrace to support in developing and implementing a B Corp improvement plan to elevate the benchmark score to achieve certification.
Crafting a B Corp improvement plan
Based on the initial benchmark score, we developed a practical improvement plan together with the TSH B Corp team to reach and go beyond the threshold for becoming a B Corp. Together with the People, Procurement, Real Estate, Community, Legal, Finance, Operations, Performance, and Sustainability teams we worked on creating and implementing new policies, practices, and initiatives to enhance its impact across the five B Corp Impact Areas. In addition, we supported with data collection and verification as part of TSH’s B Corp journey.
Our approach involved checking the already established baseline, conducting a gap analysis to identify improvement areas and creating a feasible action plan with the TSH B Corp team. We provided support to project teams in executing their tasks and projects, guiding them step-by-step to implement the action plan, improve the organisational impact and increase the B Corp score. Through regular engagement, including 1-on-1s, core team meetings, templates and advice, we empowered The Social Hub’s teams and worked together to fully implement the action plan.
From action to tangible result
Through dedicated efforts across various projects, we nearly doubled the B Corp score by the time of submission, significantly enhancing The Social Hub’s social and environmental performance. Some milestones include:
- Responsible supply chains: Establishing a new Code of Conduct and supplier screening processes.
- Diversity and inclusion:Implementing policies to promote an equitable workplace.
- Environmental initiatives:Launching a waste reduction program.
A commitment to continuous improvement
This journey not only accelerated positive change within TSH but also deepened their internal commitment to sustainability. Our collaboration provided valuable insights and to prepare TSH for recertification, enabling them to continue optimising their social and environmental impact. Together, we’ve laid a strong foundation for TSH’s ongoing mission to create a better society and fairer and greener world.
